Sandra Fryhofer, MD, a board-certified physician in internal medicine, has been named president-elect of the American Medical Association, according to a June 9 news release shared with Becker’s.
Dr. Fryhofer holds a full-time general internal medicine practice in Atlanta and is an adjunct associate professor of medicine at Atlanta-based Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Fryhofer has been a leader within the AMA for more than two decades. In 2018, she was elected to the AMA Board of Trustees and served as a board chair in 2022 and 2023.
She has been a member of the AMA House of Delegates since 1999, was elected twice to the Council on Science and Public Health and was the first chair of the AMA’s Gun Violence Task Force.
Dr. Fryhofer has been the AMA’s liaison to the CDC’s advisory committee on immunization practices for years. She has testified before Congress and the FDA, served as a CNN medical correspondent and served as president of the American College of Physicians.
