AMA taps new CEO

John Whyte, MD, has been named CEO and executive vice president of the American Medical Association, effective July 1. 

Dr. Whyte will succeed James Madara, MD, who will end his 14-year tenure as CEO of AMA once his contract ends, according to a May 9 news release shared with Becker’s.

Prior to his new role, Dr. Whyte served as the CMO for New York City-based WebMD.

He also served in leadership roles for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, HHS, Food and Drug Administration, and Discovery Communications, a media company.
