Allegheny Health Network taps Cleveland Clinic physician for exec role: 5 takeaways

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network appointed Sricharan Chalikonda, MD, chief of clinical operations and strategic initiatives, effective Feb. 5.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Dr. Chalikonda currently serves as chairman of surgical operations and the Enterprise Surgical Council at Cleveland Clinic.

2. He is also a member of the Cleveland Clinic’s board of governors and a staff surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease and Surgical Institute, where he is also co-director of the Hepatobiliary Fellowship Program and director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program.

3. Dr. Chalikonda, who completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and in surgical oncology at UPMC, is a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.

4. He performed Cleveland Clinic’s first robotic Whipple procedure and first HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) procedure for peritoneal carcinomatosis.

5. At AHN, Dr. Chalikonda will oversee clinical operations for Allegheny Clinic, the network’s physician organization. He will also continue his surgical practice at AHN’s Center for Digestive Diseases and Cancer Institute.
