Allegheny Health Network names 5 leaders

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network has appointed five leaders to key roles across the system.

Here are the appointments announced Jan. 12:

1. Brian Johnson, MD, was named medical director and chief population health officer for AHN’s clinically integrated network, Physician Partners of Western PA. An internal medicine physician, Dr. Johnson had served as president of AHN West Penn Hospital, also in Pittsburgh, since 2020.

2. Lou Baverso, AHN’s COO, was named interim president of AHN West Penn until a permanent successor is selected. He joined the system in 2025.

3. Saad Mahmood, DO, was appointed chief medical officer at AHN Allegheny General Hospital. Dr. Mahmood had served as associate CMO since 2023. He succeeds Al Philp, MD, who will remain on staff and return to a full-time clinical role.

4. Alan Murdock, MD, was named interim network director of trauma. A trauma, critical care and emergency general surgeon, Dr. Murdock has led the general surgery residency program since 2017.

5. Giath Shari, MD, was appointed CMO of AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Pa. A pulmonary and critical care physician, Dr. Shari had led the hospital’s medicine department since 2022. He succeeds Ezz-Eldin Moukamal, MD, who was appointed AHN’s chief quality officer in 2025.
