After 30 years, CEO of Sheppard Pratt Health to retire

Baltimore-based Sheppard Pratt Health System CEO Steven S. Sharfstein, MD, has announced he will retire July 1, 2016, after serving the mental health system for 30 years.

Dr. Sharfstein joined Sheppard Pratt in 1986 as vice president and medical director before taking over as president and CEO in 1992. He also serves as a clinical professor and vice chair of psychiatry at the University of Maryland in College Park. Over the last several years, Dr. Sharfstein has filled a variety of roles at the National Institute of Mental Health and is a former president of the American Psychiatric Association.
