Advocate Health names president for North Carolina, Georgia markets

Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health appointed Steve Smoot president of its North Carolina and Georgia division, effective June 2. 

Mr. Smoot replaces Ken Haynes who was recently named executive vice president and chief enterprise services officer for Advocate Health. 

Most recently, he served as COO for St. Louis-based SSM Health, which operates 23 hospitals and more than 300 physician offices across Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Before joining SSM, he was associate COO at Salt Lake City-based Intermountain, where he oversaw 23 hospitals. 

“Steve brings over 25 years of healthcare leadership,” Advocate Health CEO Eugene Woods said in an April 21 news release. “Beyond his resume, Steve shares our values and will help us deliver on our purpose: to redefine care for all.”        

Mr. Smoot has a Master of Business Administration degree from Provo, Utah-based Brigham Young University and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, which twice awarded him with the ACHE Regents Award.
