Advocate Good Samaritan hires new chief nurse executive: 5 things to know

Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital has appointed Susan Okuno-Jones, DNP, MSN, BSN, RN, vice president of patient care services and chief nurse executive, effective June 27.

Here are five things to know about Dr.Okuno-Jones.

1. She is a 29-year veteran of Downers Grove-based Advocate Health Care.

2. Currently, she is the vice president of nursing professional practice and innovation at Advocate Health Care's headquarters.

3. In her new role, she will lead Good Samaritan's patient care services division, which includes inpatient nursing, critical care, emergency/EMS/trauma services, perioperative services, women and children's services, pharmacy, respiratory, care management, inpatient physical medicine and Magnet, according to a news release. Officials said she also will be responsible for the ongoing development and sustainment of professional nursing practice and will partner with service line leadership in the implementation of Good Samaritan's strategic plan.

4. Dr. Okuno-Jones earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice and a master's degree in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a master's degree in health service management from Webster University in St. Louis, and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.

5. Dr. Okuno-Jones replaces Marjorie Maurer, who is retiring July 1.
