Here are eight things to know about Dr. Gurman, according to AMA.
1. Dr. Gurman will serve as president-elect for one year.
2. Dr. Gurman will assume the office of AMA president in June 2016.
3. During the last eight years, Dr. Gurman was the speaker and vice speaker of the House of Delegates, AMA’s primary policy-making body, and has been an active member of the AMA Board of Trustees.
4. Dr. Gurman has served as board liaison to the AMA Foundation.
5. Dr. Gurman has represented the AMA at the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy Stakeholders Group on Opioid Prescribing and Dispensing.
6. Dr. Gurman has represented Pennsylvania physicians in the AMA House of Delegates for nearly 20 years.
7. Dr. Gurman is a former speaker and vice speaker of the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates and he twice served as chairman of the Pennsylvania Medical Society Political Action Committee.
8. Dr. Gurman is in private practice in Altoona, Pa.
