Risant Health, the nonprofit formed by Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, has added several leaders in 2025, including a chief medical information officer.
Formed in 2023, Risant — based in Washington, D.C. — aims to “expand and accelerate the adoption of value-based care in “diverse, multipayer, multiprovider, community-based health system environments.” Last year, it completed the acquisition of its first two health systems, Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger and Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health.
Here is information on the four leaders Risant has added in 2025:
Chief medical information officer
Jessica Bartell, MD, joined Risant as CMIO on March 24.
In her role, she is responsible for augmenting and supporting the quality and effectiveness of clinical informatics and information across Risant. She is also responsible for optimizing clinical technologies and workflows to make it easier for clinicians and care teams to integrate value-based care, “while operating at their best in other aspects of pluralistic, multipayer, multiprovider environments.”
Dr. Bartell joined Risant from UnitedHealthcare, where she served as senior vice president and chief medical officer over the areas of population health, value-based care and clinical policy.
Value-based platform leadership team
Risant in March named three leaders to oversee the development and implementation of its value-based platform.
Deepak Sadagopan is serving as the business lead for the platform. He is responsible for expanding and accelerating the adoption of the value-based platform. He joined Risant from Renton, Wash.-based Providence, where he served as the COO of population health. including value-based care guides and AI-driven care tools.
Chris Cable, MD, is responsible for building and delivering the platform’s clinical capabilities, including value-based care guides and AI-driven care tools. Dr. Cable is also continuing to serve as the chief clinical officer for the Kaiser Permanente Medical Foundation.
Marc Mora, MD, is focusing on clinical network design and value-based strategies. He is also continuing his role as the executive medical director of health plans functions for Washington Permanente Medical Group.
