Kyle Buchanan, president of Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala., and Red Bay (Ala.) Hospital has been named president of Crestwood Medical Center, a 180-bed hospital in Huntsville, Ala., according to an April 8 news release shared with Becker’s.

The appointment, effective April 20, follows Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems’ sale of Crestwood to Huntsville Hospital Health System for $459 million, which closed April 1.

Mr. Buchanan has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. In his current role, he has led efforts to improve hospital performance and expand physician partnerships, according to the release.

He succeeds Justin Serrano, who was named CEO of Physicians Regional Healthcare System’s Collier Boulevard campus in Naples, Fla.

“Crestwood has a longstanding reputation for caring for this community, and I’m honored to be part of that,” Mr. Buchanan said in the release. “We will build on that strong foundation and continue investing in our people and services.”

Huntsville Hospital Health System said Sherry Sands, MSN, RN, will serve as interim president of Helen Keller and Red Bay hospitals.
