CEO Mark Tolosky: Exemplifying Exceptional Leadership at Baystate Health

As president and CEO of Baystate Health in Springfield, Mass., Mark Tolosky, JD, is the leader of one of the largest health systems in New England. Baystate includes an academic medical center, a children's hospital, two community hospitals, home care agencies, medical practices and a health insurance company.

Mr. Tolosky was recently awarded the prestigious 2012 William L. Lane Hospital Advocate Award from the Massachusetts Hospital Association. The award honors a senior hospital executive who exemplifies exceptional leadership and the characteristics to which all hospitals and health system leaders should aspire, according to Massachusetts Hospital Association. The characteristics include professional excellence; outstanding achievements; innovative accomplishments; compassion in patient care; success in overcoming barriers; and exemplary contributions to advocate on behalf of hospitals, patients and the healthcare system.

Mr. Tolosky has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare executive management. He served as chair of the Massachusetts Hospital Association from 2003 to 2004. In 2004, he was named Massachusetts Health Care Executive of the Year. Mr. Tolosky also volunteers in numerous civic activities and is devoted to youth development, providing volunteer leadership in scouting and sports.
