Wolters Kluwer Health is working with Epic to give eligible Epic customers in the U.S. turnkey access to a bundled set of drug information and patient education content delivered inside their EHR workflows, the company announced July 30.
The Waltham, Mass.-based company is combining UpToDate Lexidrug, Medi-Span and UpToDate Patient Education into a single procurement, implementation and support model. Wolters Kluwer said it designed the offering for institutions that traditionally face budget and resource constraints, including rural hospitals, federally qualified health centers, state hospitals, tribal healthcare organizations, ambulatory practices and small health systems.
UpToDate Lexidrug provides drug referential content, and Medi-Span supplies embedded drug data and clinical screening modules that support medication decisions. UpToDate Patient Education delivers the leaflet content clinicians share with patients, in the same Epic workflow.
Wolters Kluwer said the offering is meant to reduce the operational burden that typically comes with implementing third-party clinical content, and the demands those projects place on internal IT and clinical informatics teams. Because the three solutions operate in Epic environments, the company said, organizations can significantly reduce testing and validation relative to standalone implementations, and manage all three through one cost center. The two companies are working with new clients on integration and implementation.
“This offering is about removing friction,” Yaw Fellin, senior vice president and general manager of clinical decision support and provider solutions at Wolters Kluwer Health, said. “By simplifying purchasing, deployment, testing and maintenance, we’re helping healthcare providers focus their resources where they matter most — supporting clinicians and improving patient care.”
Mr. Fellin said organizations serving rural and underserved populations need the same evidence-based resources used across the broader healthcare ecosystem. The companies did not disclose pricing or eligibility criteria.
Wolters Kluwer has announced international deployments of the same product lines this year. Norway’s national health system adopted UpToDate Enterprise Edition in July, covering 30,000 clinicians across more than 50 hospitals, and Medi-Span logged its first National Health Service implementation in May, at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, England.
The company announced two other U.S. integrations last year. In April 2025, it embedded more than 7,500 patient education leaflets into Epic and MyChart for select UpToDate Enterprise Edition customers. In October 2025, it expanded a partnership with Abridge to surface UpToDate guidance inside ambient AI documentation, an integration in use at Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health.
Like both of those, the new bundle puts Wolters Kluwer content inside an application clinicians are already working in rather than a separate destination — the consistent pattern across the company’s health division.
