Winneshiek Medical Center to spend $2.5M on Epic EHR

The board of trustees at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa, unanimously approved investing $2.5 million to implement Epic's EHR, reports decorahnews.com.

The community hospital reported a financially profitable fiscal year resulting in surplus operation revenue, which will constitute the funds for the purchase. The hospital will not have to borrow money for the implementation, according to the report.

Winneshiek Medical Center will use the Epic software from the University of Iowa's Community Connect program, according to the report, which allows health systems to extend their Epic software to affiliated hospitals and practices.

Winneshiek Medical Center is affiliated with Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, which is also implementing an Epic EHR.
