Of these users, 61 percent use fitness bands, 45 percent use smartwatches and 17 percent use mHealth devices.
Wearable wearers tend to be:
- Young — Almost half (48 percent) of current consumers of wearable technology are between 18 and 34 years old.
- Wealthy — 29 percent of those using wearable devices earn more than $100,000 per year.
- Tech-savvy — 75 percent of wearables users consider themselves early adopters.
- Cost-sensitive — 72 percent of uses said they wished wearables were less expensive.
- Fashion-conscious — 62 percent want a device other than a band or a watch, and 53 percent wish their wearable looked more like jewelry.
The survey also forecasts a coming expansion in the number of wearable users, as nearly half of all survey respondents expressed a desire to purchase a wearable in the near future.
Survey results are based on 3,956 responses to a November 2013 online survey.
