Who CMIOs report to

Chief medical information officers are most likely to report to chief medical officers, a new survey found.

However, CMIOs, aka chief medical informatics officers, are increasingly reporting to a newer C-suite role, the chief health informatics officer, who oversees all informatics functions, according to the October report from the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems and leadership search firm WittKieffer.

Fifty-three percent of CMIOs surveyed said they’re a member of the executive leadership at the enterprise level of their organizations.

Here are who CMIOs report to, per the study:

1. Chief medical officer: 34%

2. CIO: 32%

3. Other (COO, chief administrative officer, etc.): 18%

4. CEO: 7%

5. Chief health informatics officer: 6%

6. Chief digital officer: 3%
