WEDI, EHNAC Announce Plan to Accredit Practice Management Systems

The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange and the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission have announced a partnership to create a practice management system accreditation program.

The partnership will allow the organizations to conduct a comprehensive review of existing practice management systems vendors in areas such as data security and operating functions. The organizations will also review government regulations, including HIPAA requirements, and the technical and business performance required by provider organizations.

"Now, more than ever, practice management systems are a critical linchpin to the success of a physician's practice and achieving their goals of driving down costs and improving quality through the use of systems," said Devin Jopp, WEDI CEO, in a news release. "Through this partnership, both WEDI and EHNAC hope to ensure that the industry maintains a common baseline that all PMS vendors will achieve."
