Walmart hires former Google, Amazon exec as new chief technology officer: 4 notes

Walmart named Suresh Kumar, a former Google, Amazon and Microsoft executive, as the company’s new chief technology and chief development officer, CNBC reports.

Four notes:

1. As CTO, Mr. Kumar will oversee Walmart’s technical strategy, which the company has been highlighting as part of its rebranding. The CTO position was previously filled by Jeremy King, who left the company in March.

2. With more than 25 years of technology leadership experience, Mr. Kumar most recently served as vice president and general manager of display, video, application ads and analytics at Google.

3. Mr. Kumar has also held leadership roles at Amazon, including vice president of technology for retail systems and operations, as well as Microsoft, where he served as corporate vice president of cloud infrastructure and operations.

4. Mr. Kumar will begin his new role at Walmart July 8.
