Walgreens customers will have access to WebMD’s virtual wellness coaching program, designed to help users quit smoking or lose weight as well as manage chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease. Use of the WebMD program will be linked to Walgreens’ rewards program, allowing consumers to earn points by working toward a health-related goal. The rewards integration will eventually include WebMD’s Healthy Target app, which uses information culled from wearables and other wireless medical devices to track users’ health.
In addition, WebMD content will be available in Walgreens stores and through its online offerings, and WebMD users will be able to request prescription refills or schedule an appointment with Walgreens’ retail clinic through WebMD.
“We’re excited to work with WebMD to provide our customers with new health resources,” said Alex Gourlay, president of customer experience and daily living at Walgreens. “Customers of both companies will benefit from WebMD’s digital engagement tools combined with assistance from Walgreens community pharmacists and nurse practitioners to help them adopt healthy lifestyles. As an added benefit, these consumers also can take advantage of the incentives included in Walgreens Balance Rewards for healthy choices program.”
