Varian Medical Systems taps Linguamatics to mine cancer data

Varian Medical Systems, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based medical device and software manufacturer, is integrating natural language processing technology into its Varian 360 Oncology care management platform.

The Varian 360 Oncology software integrates data from multiple sources, including physician referrals, outcomes data, care pathways and guidelines. The platform is used by hospitals and cancer centers to facilitate coordinated care management.

Through this new collaboration, Varian will use natural language processing technology from Linguamatics, a company that develops text mining software. Varian will use the Linguamatics Health platform to help healthcare organizations extract unstructured data from pathology reports.
