The funding is part of USDA’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Loan and Grant program, through which the USDA has already invested close to $150 million. These investments complement other USDA efforts to improve rural communications — in fiscal year 2013, USDA provided $305 million in loans for broadband infrastructure in rural areas.
