USDA Doles Out 45 Telemedicine Grants to Rural Hospitals

The United States Department of Agriculture awarded 45 healthcare organizations $34.7 million in grants through its Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

The grants were made available to healthcare organizations for educational projects and efforts to expand access to healthcare services in rural communities. One organization, INTEGRIS Health, received more than $495,000 and will use the money to replace current systems with upgraded video teleconferencing equipment for a network of rural schools, hospitals and health centers. The grants will also fund educational services, including speech therapy and instruction for students.
