Dr. Faison said he is working toward a pilot program that would leverage telemedicine to connect patients with the 63,000 physicians, nurses, corpsmen and dentists in the U.S. Navy’s network, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. In particular, this pilot program would connect corpsmen-led clinics with physicians at other healthcare facilities.
At present, for example, warships at sea, and even the U.S. Navy hospital in Guam, already connect to specialists at other U.S. Navy hospitals. This program would expand upon these telemedicine initiatives, to ensure all patients receive quality care.
