The appointment falls under President Barack Obama’s Cybersecurity National Action Plan, announced in February, which comprises both short- and long-term actions to bolster the government’s cybersecurity standing.
Mr. Touhill is a retired brigadier general with the Air Force, currently serving as deputy assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications with the Department of Homeland Security.
Additionally, the White House named Grant Schneider acting deputy CISO. Mr. Schneider currently is director for cybersecurity policy on the White House’s National Security Council staff.
