UPMC Grabs No. 1 Spot on InformationWeek's Top 500 Most Innovative Companies

InformationWeek has named the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as the most innovative company on its annual list, InformationWeek 500.

UPMC won the top slot based on its execution of innovative IT strategy, according to InformationWeek. The article cites UPMC's ability and willingness to develop the technology it needs if the right product does not exist in the market, and its ambitious $100 million, five-year data warehousing project.

UPMC was not the only hospital or health system to find a place on InformationWeek's list — Miami Children's Hospital, Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Vanguard Health Systems in Nashville, Tenn., Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa., University of Florida Health in Gainesville, Children's Medical Center Dallas, University Health System in San Antonio and Dignity Health in San Francisco all made the top 50.
