Under the agreement, UMHS physicians can access the medical records of non-UMHS patients in the GLHIE network of providers, which includes hospitals, laboratories, radiology centers, long-term care facilities and urgent care centers.
GLHIE is a sub-state HIE and will eventually feed into the Michigan Health Information Network that will enable an exchange of health information across the state. Sub-state HIEs in Michigan are part of MiHIN Shared Services, which was created “to administer the technical and business operations of Michigan’s State HIE Cooperative Agreement program,” according to the organization’s website.
