Students and scholars can enroll in a master’s or PhD program in Health Infrastructures and Learning Systems. The degree programs focus on the role of infrastructure like technology and policy and how it informs health improvement efforts. The master’s program focuses on preparing students to implement such learning systems, and the PhD program focuses on preparing students for research.
The degrees will be led by the medical school’s Department of Learning Health Sciences.
“The Learning Health System is a transformational concept that is capturing imaginations and inspiring innovation worldwide,” says Charles P. Friedman, PhD, chair of the Department of Learning Health Sciences, and Josiah Macy Jr., professor of medical education. “At Michigan, we recognize that the challenge of creating a high-functioning learning health system creates a large academic agenda. The HILS program will address an enormous, worldwide need for a new generation of ‘health infrastructuralists.'”
