University at Albany home to new cybersecurity, data breach research library

The University at Albany (N.Y.) School of Business will host a new research library dedicated to exploring cybersecurity and incident response.

The new laboratory will develop digital forensic tools to boost information protection after data braches, enhancing the focus on incident response.

"In the past, information security was focused on perimeter defense, but this is no longer sufficient," said Sanjay Goel, associate professor in the School of Business and director of the UAlbany-based NYS Cyber Security Center. Mr. Goel will also lead the new laboratory. "Digital forensics provides visibility inside the network, allowing organizations to monitor network intrusions. This is one of the fastest growing areas in the field of consulting."

The ARC Group of New York has donated half a million dollars worth of software and services to support the new laboratory.
