UMass Medical School, UMass Lowell collaborate on cyberinfrastructure for storing sensitive data

Flexware, the product of a partnership between University of Massachusetts Lowell and Worcester-based University of Massachusetts, is a cyberinfrastructure technology that enables patients, researchers and physicians to transport and store sensitive data. The project is slated to be tested in a clinical trial to get a more accurate picture of obese patients' caloric intake.

"This project will have significant impacts on improving the quality of healthcare applications; providing clinical and scientific researchers with flexible and efficient network resource allocation for studying patient behavior; and training the next generation workforce in medical and engineering fields," Vinod Vokkarane, PhD, principal investigator on the Flexware system, said in a statement.

Flexware is part of the Network Cyberinfrastructure for Biomedical Informatics Innovation project and is funded by a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
