University of California, San Francisco Medical Center has received the largest gift in its history — a $48 million bequest to benefit pulmonary medicine research and care, according to a UCSF news release.
The bequest comes from the estate of Nina Ireland, a long-time supporter of UCSF who passed away in Oct. 2010. Ms. Ireland’s generosity and gifts have also enabled UCSF to establish a biology laboratory and professorships in pulmonary medicine and child psychiatry.
The $48 million will further the study and treatment of various pulmonary conditions, a focus of UCSF’s 42-member pulmonary and critical care division.
