The University of California Los Angeles Health System was found not responsible for the unauthorized release of information from a woman’s medical record in a California court on Thursday.

The plaintiff, Norma Lozano, alleged that a healthcare worker used a physician’s login information to access her medical record, then proceeded to take photos of and distribute data from the record. The worker was romantically involved with the plaintiff’s ex-boyfriend, and the shared information revealed that Lozano had a sexually transmitted disease.

Although accused of not taking preventative measures to prevent unauthorized access of the plaintiff’s medical record, UCLA claimed that it should not be held responsible for the worker’s misconduct.
