UCHealth Denver pilots social media-style ER updates

Denver-based UCHealth deployed new tech into UC Anschutz Medical Campus' emergency department, Foster Goss, DO, founder of the digital health company CareLoop, told Becker's Hospital Review via email.

UCHealth conducted the pilot program in December 2016 and January 2017 using CareLoop's technology. The CareLoop platform allows physicians to send patients real-time updates about imaging reports, lab results and other aspects of care via mobile app.

CareLoop, which uses a "social network platform" to connect patients and providers, hopes the app will personalize patient care. "Unlike patient portals, which provide access [to] lab or imaging reports, the information is being shared through CareLoop has been interpreted by the provider," according to the Dr. Goss.

The UCHealth pilot showed 96 percent of patients enjoyed receiving real-time updates from their physician and nurses. The majority of patients (86 percent) also felt this type of intervention improved communication with their providers.
