UC Davis warns of potential data breach after abnormal activity detected in email account

University of California Davis Health System has notified patients of a potential data breach after an unknown source gained access to a provider's email account.

According to the patient notification letter, the health system's IT team detected "abnormal activity" in a provider's email account, leading to "unauthorized use and potential impermissible access of the email account."

The health system sent letters to patients with information stored in the email account, such as information about upcoming appointments or provider referrals.

No financial or billing information or Social Security numbers were compromised, according to the letter.
