Tumblr data breach affects nearly 66M users

Nearly 66 million Tumblr users have been affected by a 2013 data breach, reports Global News.

In a blog post dated May 12, Tumblr notified users of the breach. "We recently learned that a third party had obtained access to a set of Tumblr user email addresses with salted and hashed passwords from early 2013, prior to the acquisition of Tumblr by Yahoo," the blog reads. "Our analysis gives us no reason to believe that this information was used to access Tumblr accounts." Still, the site required affected users to create a new password.

Although Tumblr did not reveal how many users were affected, "Have I Been Pwned?" — a data breach reveal website — obtained the data and concluded 65,469,298 users were influenced by the breach.
