Tuesday Only, Google Glass on Sale to Public

For one day only, any U.S. resident can purchase a pair of the much-hyped Google Glass.

Starting 6:00 a.m. PDT Tuesday, a limited supply of Google Glass will be available for $1,500 through Google's website.

Previously, membership in Google's Explorer program, a group of companies, universities and individuals selected by Google to test-drive the new technology, was necessary to purchase a pair of Google Glass. This will be the first time Glass is offered for purchase to the general public.

Many hospitals and health systems, which are all part of the Explorer program, have found innovative uses for Google Glass. Emergency department physicians at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston are using the technology to access patient data hands-free, a surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus used Glass to live-stream a surgery, and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston recently offered its patients a chance to don a pair to virtually "visit" a neighboring zoo.
