NW Rheumatology experienced a ransomware attack that encrypted some of its computer system April 10. The practice contacted its computer security vendor who investigated the incident and determined no protected health information had been accessed or acquired as a result of the cyberattack.

On June 18, the practice discovered additional evidence of unauthorized access to its system from the April ransomware attack. The practice hired an independent computer forensic firm to investigate the incident. The forensic team confirmed on July 6 that an unauthorized individual had gained access to the practice’s computer system, but could not determine whether any data was accessed.

As a precautionary measure, NW Rheumatology sent letters to impacted patients. It will also provide free credit monitoring and identity restoration services.

Becker’s has reached out to NW Rheumatology for comment. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
