The top reasons CIOs choose to outsource jobs

The No. 1 reason IT leaders outsource jobs is to fill the gap of any skills not available in-house, according to a joint survey by IT outsourcing service provider Harvey Nash and professional services firm KPMG.

For the IT leadership survey, Harvey Nash and KPMG asked nearly 4,000 CIOs and technology leaders across 84 countries about their attitudes toward various aspects of their careers, including budget, technology and workforce priorities.

Here are the six main reasons CIOs cited for choosing to outsource jobs:

1. Provides access to skills not available in-house: 46 percent

2. Saves money: 36 percent

3. Frees up resources to focus on core business: 35 percent

4. Adds scale to my IT organization: 33 percent

5. Improves flexibility in use of resources: 29 percent

6. Improves our ability to innovate: 10 percent
