The University of Iowa in Iowa City is providing free support and guidance through a telehealth program for professionals who care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The initiative connects healthcare providers, community agencies and other professionals through twice-monthly virtual sessions, a Feb. 2 health system news release said. The program focuses on shared learning and expert consultation to improve care quality and outcomes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Since launching in September 2024, the program has engaged 147 participants from 62 organizations across 35 Iowa counties. As of January 2026, the initiative has held 29 sessions and has also drawn participants from Georgia, North Carolina and Nebraska.
Survey results showed 100% of respondents said the sessions were relevant to their work, while 95% reported they would apply what they learned in practice.
