New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell has implemented the program in three of its hospitals: Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Long Island Jewish Valley Stream.
The program allows professionals to use a remote camera to zoom in on burns and a microphone system to communicate with patients. Once the telehealth appointment is complete, the provider will determine the treatment strategy and assess if the patient needs to be transferred to the Burn Center’s physical location, according to the report.
The center is the only designated burn center within the health system and a leader of caring for and rehabilitating victims of burn wounds. The technology allows for more immediate action in treating burns, and the collaboration provides patients with physicians who are specialized in managing burns, according to the report.
