The VA medical center’s patients will be able to use the Department of Veterans Affairs’ VA Video Connect App. The telehealth app allows users to participate in remote medical appointments via video consultation and connect with their providers using a chat feature. VA launched the app in March 2018 for iPhones.
Veterans can use the app for mental healthcare as well as specialty services, such as dermatology, that the VA does not provide. The medical center is offering patients lessons on how to use the technology and even plans to offer veterans free tablets, according to the report.
The medical center is also in the process of applying for a grant to fund a mobile clinic which can travel to rural communities and allow veterans direct access to the telehealth technology.
