Two health systems have joined several companies in urging the state of Michigan to continue its participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact.
Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health and Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health signed on to a March 18 letter from the American Telemedicine Association, asking Michigan legislative leaders to take action to stay in the compact before its membership expires March 28.
“Participation in the IMLC has proven to be an effective tool for improving healthcare access,” the letter reads. “By reducing duplicative administrative barriers to physician licensure, the compact helps health systems recruit physicians, expand telehealth services and ensure that patients can receive timely care regardless of geographic boundaries.”
Lifepoint (UP Health System) and Sanford (Marshfield Clinic Health System) both have a presence in the state’s rural Upper Peninsula. Telehealth companies such as Teladoc Health, Hims & Hers and Ro were also signatories.
