Sutter Health, which operates 28 hospitals across northern California, received the award for efficient use of its EHR system. The Stage 7 Award is the highest in the HIMSS standard system, indicating an organization is largely paperless and has been audited by an HIMSS Analytics expert to verify the hospital’s use of the EHR system.

The system’s Palo Alto Medical Foundation Clinics include 46 clinics in five counties across the Bay Area. The Stage 7 Ambulatory Award indicates the efficient use of an EHR system in an ambulatory clinic on a scale of zero to seven. Approximately 6.21 percent of ambulatory clinics in the U.S. have attained level 7, according to a news release.
