The tool, called Sentinel, will monitor more than 1.5 billion electronic prescriptions sent across Surescripts’ network each year. It will also connect data from the Surescripts network with the National Library of Medicine and industrywide drug databases to track e-prescription usage patterns.

By tracking this data, Surescripts hopes to provide pharmacists, prescribers and IT vendors with actionable insights to inform patient care. “This comprehensive approach will have a direct impact on patient care by helping pharmacists and prescribers identify and fix inaccuracies and avoid time-consuming errors,” said Tom Skelton, CEO of Surescripts.
