Researchers studied data from the country’s 1,128 health centers. The data revealed not only a high level of adoption, but no significant disparities in adoption based on region, urban or rural status, patient demographics, physician staffing levels or overall funding.
The researchers point to grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration as both the driver and enabler of EHR adoption in the health centers. The importance of these grants is shown in the small variations they did find in EHR adoption related to total patient costs and percent of the centers’ revenues that came from grants.
