The research and consulting firm MarketsandMarkets predicts the global healthcare IT market will reach $162.2 billion in 2015, a 10.2 percent compound annual growth rate from the 2010 value of $99.6 billion.

The report, “World Healthcare IT Market: Trends & Forecast (2010 – 2015)” attributes the expected growth to a need to cut healthcare costs, improve hospitals’ workflow and efficiencies and federal initiatives. 

The report also shows the predicted CAGR of different segments of HIT for 2010-2015:

– Electronic medical records — 16.7 percent
– Computerized physician order entry — 16.5 percent
– Point of care, specialty care and surgical and intensive care information services — 15.1 percent
