The theft was discovered Oct. 26, and the hospital filed a report with the City of Austin Police Department.
The laptop was password-protected, but it did contain identifiable information, including names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, insurance numbers, diagnoses, referral ID numbers and medical record numbers. The hospital’s information systems are not accessible via the laptop.
HealthSouth Round Rock said it has no indication if any of the information has been accessed or used.
The hospital was formerly known as Reliant Rehabilitation Hospital Central Texas and was recently acquired by an affiliate of HealthSouth. Part of the acquisition process included returning and exchanging all laptops from Reliant for laptops from HealthSouth. The stolen laptop in question was a Reliant laptop that had not yet been returned or exchanged through HealthSouth.
