Devoted will offer a discount of up to $150 on the Apple Watch for its members. The companies reached this agreement after months of deliberation, according to the report.
Apple has designed functions for its smartwatch such as heart health monitoring and fall detection, which can be beneficial for older patient populations. Devoted members can apply the subsidy to an Apple Watch Series 3 for $199, or newer versions of the smartwatch starting at $349, CNBC reports.
Apple is also working with commercial insurers such as Aetna and life insurers like John Hancock to help members gain access to the Apple Watch. The collaborations follow CMS’ rule changes earlier this year that allow health plans to offer a greater variety of benefits, according to the report.
Devoted is only available in Florida, but the company plans to expand to other states, including Texas, in 2020. The insurer currently has about 4,000 members and aims to scale more than 100,000 members by 2023, CNBC reports.
