Saint Francis Launches Epic EHR System

Hartford, Conn.-based Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has announced it implemented EpiCare, an electronic health record system from Epic.

Implementation of the EHR system at Saint Francis took 18 months and cost $120 million. The introduction of the EpiCare system also engaged 5,000 Saint Francis employees, as information for 1.3 million patients was entered into the EHR system in preparation for Saint Francis' go-live, according to the news release.

The EpiCare system encompasses many features designed for patient use, including a component called MyCare that allows patients to securely access their medical records, prescription history, diagnostic images and lab results through Satin Francis' website, according to the news release.

"EpiCare will facilitate the flow of patient information across the hospital and beyond," said Linda Shanley, CIO and vice president of Saint Francis, in a news release.
