The staff reduction would be the largest in the tech giant’s history and focus on the devices, retail and human resources departments, people familiar with the matter told the newspaper. The cuts would represent about 3 percent of the company’s corporate workforce.
With the move, Amazon would join other tech firms that have undergone huge layoffs in recent weeks to deal with changing economic conditions, including Facebook parent Meta, which let go of 11,000 employees, and Twitter, which reduced its workforce by 3,700 people.
