Predictive analytics startup Picwell secures $7M in 2015

Picwell, a Philadelphia-based predictive healthcare analytics startup, has raised $3 million in its second funding round of 2015, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. Combined with a first round that closed in the summer, the company has raised about $7 million this year.

The company’s proprietary algorithm assesses health insurance options and provides users with rankings based on their responses to questions about health status and risk tolerance, among other things.

A July press release following the company’s initial funding round touts Picwell’s technology as the first of its kind, accounting for more than 900,000 variables that impact health insurance plan selection. The company has not issued a statement regarding its intentions for the newly secured capital, but said its initial funding round would be dedicated to expanding operations and accelerating the development of decision support products for consumers.
