The office space, which Philips said will comprise an “innovation center,” aims to position the company’s employees closer to universities, medical centers and research partners in the city. The decision will relocate more than 100 of the company’s employees in western Pennsylvania to the Pittsburg center.

Philips has been growing its western Pennsylvania workforce since its acquisition of Murrysville, Pa.-based Respironics, a developer of sleep and respiratory solutions, in 2008. Today, Philips has more than 1,700 employees in the region.
